Amigurumi Crochet Chubby Whale Free Pattern:

Body (using blue or pink yarn)
R1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6 sts)
R2: *inc* rep 6 times (12 sts)
R3: *sc 1, inc* rep 6 times (18 sts)
R4: *sc 2, inc* rep 6 times (24 sts)
R5: *sc 3, inc* rep 6 times (30 sts)
R6: *sc 4, inc* rep 6 times (36 sts)
R7: *sc 8, inc* rep 4 times (40 sts)
R8: *sc 9, inc* rep 4 times (44 sts)
R9: *sc 10, inc* rep 4 times (48 sts)
R10-21: sc in all 48 sts (12 rounds total at 48 sts each)
Finish off. No need to leave a long tail. Insert your safety eyes between R20 & 21, 11 sts apart. (Hint: insert the 1st eye. Count 11 sts from the hole where you inserted the 1st eye and insert the 2nd eye.)

Cut two small cheeks—mine were about 9mm in size—out of pink felt and glue (or sew) them next to the eyes. I used Speed-Sew for my glue, but a hot glue gun would also work.

Bottom of body (using white yarn)
R1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6 sts)
R2: *inc* rep 6 times (12 sts)
R3: *sc 1, inc* rep 6 times (18 sts)
R4: *sc 2, inc* rep 6 times (24 sts)
R5: *sc 3, inc* rep 6 times (30 sts)
R6: *sc 4, inc* rep 6 times (36 sts)
R7: *sc 5, inc* rep 6 times (42 sts)
R8: *sc 6, inc* rep 6 times (48 sts)
Finish off leaving a very long tail for sewing. The tail I left on mine was about 35 in. (89 cm).

We will now sew the bottom and top of the body together. Going through the thicknesses of both the top and bottom pieces (that is, front and back loops of both top and bottom), join them together using the whip stitch. They should align perfectly since there are 48 sts around on both the top and bottom pieces. When you are about one-third of the way done sewing, start to stuff the body. Push most of the stuffing toward the top of the whale, stuffing that part firmly, leaving the bottom part slightly flat so he can sit on his own. When you have just a few stitches left to close, finish stuffing.

Tail (using blue or pink yarn)
R1: ch 2, 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook (4 sts)
R2: *sc 1, inc* rep 2 times (6 sts)
R3: *sc 2, inc* rep 2 times (8 sts)
R4: sc in all 8 sts (8 sts)
R5: *sc 3, inc* rep 2 times (10 sts)
R6: *sc 4, inc* rep 2 times (12 sts)
R7: sc in all 12 sts (12 sts)

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. Do not stuff. Sew the open ends together to create a flat edge for sewing and sew to the back of the body. I sewed mine on so that the corners curved up slightly. I sewed the corners to about R19-20 of the body and the bottom part to R21.

Tail fins (make 2 using blue or pink  yarn)
Ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6 sts)
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the flat edge of your tail fins to either side of the tail. Make a knot to secure the sewing when you are finished. When you are done sewing the fins on, weave both the starting yarn tail and the sewing yarn tail into the whale’s body to hide the ends and keep them from fraying.

Side fins (make 2 using blue or pink yarn)
Ch 4, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 3, turn and in the front loops of the ch, inc 1, sc 2 (7 sts)

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Sew the fins onto either side of the body onto R21 about 3 sts away from the eyes. Weave in all ends.

Flower for girl whale (using cream yarn)
R1: ch 2, 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook (5 sts)
R2: *sl st 1, ch 2, in the same sc that you made the sl st, make 2 dc* repeat this sequence 4 times in each of the remaining 4 sts (you should have 5 petals total when finished).

Sl st in the first sl st of R2 to finish off. Leave long tail for sewing. Take a length of yellow yarn and make some crisscrosses in the middle until you’re satisfied. Sew to the right side of her head over R9 & 10 approx. Weave in all ends.

Sailor hat for boy whale (using white yarn)
R1: ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6 sts)
R2: *inc* rep 6 times (12 sts)
R3-5: sc in all 12 sts (12 sts)
R6: in FLO (front loops only) sc in all 12 sts (12 sts)
R7: *inc* rep 12 times (24 sts)
R8: sc in all 24 sts (24 sts)
Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. Weave your tail neatly to the center fold of the hat and sew it to the left side of his head over R6-9 approx.

Congratulations !!
