The finished measurements are approximately 10cm/4″ from top to bottom.
Notes:
1- The panels are worked from the bottom up in flat rows.
2- The face is stitched onto the front panel before assembly.
3- The panels are single crocheted together to join them and then stuffed.

– A length of yarn or ribbon around the brim as an accent colour.
Set aside.

Scarf (make 1):
Row 1: In red, ch 7, starting in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in each st (5 sts), ch 1, turn.
Rows 2-30: Hdc in each st (5 sts), ch 1, turn.
Row 31: Hdc in each st (5 sts)
Tie off. Set aside.

Nose (make 1):
Row 1: In orange, ch 4, starting in 2nd ch from hook slst in first ch, sc in next ch, dc in last ch (3 sts)

Tie off, leaving a long tail for stitching. You will have a triangle shape. Fold the triangle in half and stitch the sides together. Weave ends to the base of the nose and use them to stitch the nose on later.

Holly Leaf (make 1):
With a 1.50mm hook and green embroidery thread:
Rnd 1: Ch 8, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2, hdc, (2 dc) into the same st, hdc, sc 2, ch 1, continue on opposite side of chain, sc 2, hdc, (2 dc) into the same st, hdc, sc 2, do not join.
,Rnd 2: Slst 2, *ch 2, slst into 2nd ch from hook (picot made), slst 2*, repeat the instructions between the * around the leaf (7 picots in total, including one at the tip of the leaf), slst to beginning st to join.
Tie off.

Berries (make 2):
With a 1.50mm hook and red embroidery thread:
Rnd 1: Work 6 sc into a MR (6 sts).
Slst to beginning st to join. Stitch holly and berries to brim of hat.
Move on to assembly below!

Assembly:
1- Insert 9mm safety eyes into the front panel between rows 11 and 12 with approximately 9 or 10 sts between them.
2- With a tapestry needle, stitch the nose between the eyes between rows 9 and 10.
3- With black crochet thread or fine weight yarn, stitch eyebrows above each eye by stitching diagonally over rows 15 and 16.
4- Place both panels together, matching up all rows and with the front facing you. Starting near the top on the left side, begin attaching the panels together by inserting your hook through both panels and single crocheting around the outside edge of the panels in white. When only the top remains open, stuff firmly. Continue crocheting around and close with an invisible join. Weave ends.
5- Position scarf so that it is just below the nose. Stitch the ends together at the back and stitch in place in a few spots at the sides and back. Weave ends. Optional: If you’d rather be able to see your snowman’s face, you can just stitch on a little mouth and skip the scarf altogether!
6- Place hat on the top of the head so that it sits at a slight angle. Stitch hat in place in a few places around.
7- Attach a hanging loop to the top of the hat.

CHAIN STITCH:
If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double/treble crochet is wide.

CROCHET INFORMATION:
At the beginning of each round of treble crochets, replace the first treble crochet with 3 chain stitches. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
At the beginning of each round of double crochets, replace the first double crochet with 1 chain stitch. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch at the beginning of the round.

PATTERN:
See diagram A.1.

COLOUR-CHANGE:
For a neat transition when changing colours, work the last slip stitch on the round with the new colour as follows: Insert the hook into the last chain stitch from the beginning of the round, pick up the strand, make 1 yarn over with the new colour and pull it through the stitch.
NB: When working with 2 colours, change for the new colour when working last yarn over and pull through on the last treble crochet before the next bobble and also lay the strand not being used over the stitches from the previous round. Work around the strand so it is hidden and taken forward.

CHRISTMAS BAUBLE – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The baubles are worked in different colour combinations. Each bauble is worked in the round, from the centre outwards and in 2 halves. The halves are sewn together and filled with wadding. The loop is worked to finish.

HALF-BAUBLE:
Read COLOUR-1 to COLOUR-8 in explanations above.
Start with crochet hook size 3 mm and the cast-on colour in DROPS Muskat.
Work 4 CHAIN STITCHES – read description above, and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.
Follow the colours in your bauble, read COLOUR-CHANGE and CROCHET INFORMATION, and work diagram A.1 in the round or follow the written description below. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!

ROUND 1: Work 1 chain stitch (replaces the first double crochet), 5 double crochets around the ring, 1 slip stitch in the chain stitch from the beginning of the round.

ROUND 6: Work 1 slip stitch around the chain-space, 3 chain stitches (1 treble crochet), * work 2 treble crochets together by working 1 treble crochet around the same chain-space, wait with the last yarn over and pull through, work 1 treble crochet around the next chain-space, and pull the last yarn over through all 3 loops on the hook, then work 1 treble crochet in the stitch under the chain-space (from round 4) work from *-* to the end of the round, work 2 treble crochets together and 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round = 36 treble crochets.

When A.1 is finished, cut and fasten the strands.
Work the other half-bauble in the same way, but when A.1 is finished cut the strand from the last round leaving a 40 cm end, which is used to sew the 2 halves together.

ASSEMBLY:
Lay the 2 halves together – making sure the start of the round matches on each half. Start the seam at the beginning of the round and sew together with 1 stitch in the back loop of each stitch all the way round – make sure the seam is not tight.
Leave a small opening at the end of the round. Fill with wadding and sew the opening together.

LOOP:
Hold the bauble so the beginning of the round is at the bottom.
Work 1 slip stitch in the top of the bauble, using the same colour as the final round on the bauble, work 20 chain stitches and fasten with 1 slip stitch in the top of the bauble. Cut and fasten the strand.

Adding the Face

Using your black embroidery floss and sharp needle, embroider a smile centered between the eyes over R14 of the head. The smile should be about 3 sc sts wide. Watch this short video to see how I embroider a simple smile.

Finish off leaving a short tail. Finish stuffing the ornament firmly and set aside until you make the ornament top.

Ornament top (using gold yarn)

Using the whipstitch, sew the two pieces together. Add a little stuffing to the top when you are about three-fourths of the way around. When finished, knot the finishing tail from the ornament we left to the remaining sewing tail of the top to secure the sewing and weave the tails into the body to finish.

Adding the Loop for Hanging
Now, we will add the loop on the top of the ornament to hang it on the tree. To do this, take a length of gold yarn and thread it through your tapestry needle. Now, pull the yarn about halfway through the center round on the top of the ornament. Knot the two ends together and then cut the excess tails off. Now hide the knot in the inside of the ornament top by pushing it through the center round of the top.
